Researchers at the Mayo Clinic have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that may be able to detect pancreatic cancer up to three years before it is typically diagnosed. The model, called REDMOD, analyzes routine CT scans and identifies subtle tissue changes that are often invisible to the human eye and missed by traditional imaging reviews.
In early studies, the AI system detected signs of pancreatic cancer significantly more accurately than radiologists reviewing the same scans—offering hope for earlier diagnosis, when treatment options are more effective and survival rates may improve.
While the technology is still undergoing clinical evaluation, this advancement represents a major step forward in the fight against one of the deadliest cancers.
